Helicopter Specialization
Evolutionary improvements in technology and engineering have made rotor lift aircraft ubiquitous, a part of our everyday lives. Helicopters have proven their value and dependability in military missions, executive transportation, construction, law enforcement, agriculture, air ambulance, and rescue. More recent advances in tiltrotor technology portend a new era in vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft.
The Helicopter Specialization provides students who have completed an FAA-approved airframe and powerplant program the opportunity to advance technical skills in helicopter theory, maintenance and overhaul, and inspection. Additional aviation technology and management courses compliment this specialization. Course requirements include helicopter theory and general maintenance practices, overhaul, and helicopter power trains and inspections. Coursework covers a variety of makes and models of helicopters, including those manufactured by Bell, Sikorsky, Enstrom, and Boeing. Click for photos of current helicopters in use.
